Career In Meteorology

Does anyone have any meteorology advice for me?

I want to study meteorolgy in college, and right now im taking my general education requirements at a local college, and i'll transfer out later. Does anyone have any advice for me? Where would the best place to take meteorology be? What kinds of classes would I take? What are my odds of getting a good job after college? Thanks!

  1. My best meteorology advice is stay out of the way of meteors!
  2. I can answer that last one. low. you can get a grant to do research, get a job as a whether spotter, or be the Chanel 3 person. but if its what you like.
  3. Where to go depends on what aspect of meteorology you're most interested in. I'm planning on going to OU (University of Oklanhoma--Norman campus) because they have the best severe storms/mesoscale weather program. You're looking at 4 terms of calculus, 3 of physics, at least one of chem, plus some computer engineering courses, in addition to GenEds and weather specific courses. http://ags.ou.edu/~azahrai/som/pdf/bsmetrlgy.pdf will show you what OU requires. Much of it will be the same elsewhere Getting a good job after college? Pretty good. There's a LOT you can do with the meteorology degree. http://webapps.ou.edu/academics/default.cfm?Academic=1745764 lists some that OU grads have achieved, in the right sidebar, again, you'll likely see similar results elsewhere
