Career In Meteorology

Where should I begin in an independent study of meteorology?

I'm a 15 year old female, sophomore in high school. I've been starting to research different career topics and colleges. I came across meteorology and I'm interested in pursuing an independent study on the topic, but what exactly makes up meteorology, (I know it has to do with weather, I don't mean that.) and where's a good place to start?
