Career In Meteorology

I want to be a meteorologist. What should I do?

Well, I'm going into high school soon. Can someone tell me what classes I should take? I also need help selecting a college. I do not want to be an on-camera meteorologist. I am really into forecasting and tracking hurricanes. It's a little early, but I'm leaning towards Florida State right now. Is that a good decision? Does anybody know some other colleges that offer what I'm looking for? I'm aware of the careers in meteorology. Which should I choose? Also, what's the pay? I know it depends on experience and what job you have, but could it be compared to another job's pay? Does it pay well? When my dad first brought me home from the hospital, the Weather Channel was on TV. When I was 3, I decided to be a meteorologist, not a baseball player. When I was 5, I dressed up as a meteorologist for Halloween. Meteorology has been calling to me since I was two days old. Please, I need some answers. This is my dream.

  1. i know you should take physics and make sure your good in math up to calculus. other than that there's not a lot high school can offer. i'm also interested in meteorology and i have no idea what sparked it, i just know from when i was maybe 7 or 8 i decided i wanted to be a weathergirl. Your best bet would be talking to your school guidance councelor they can point you in the right direction. As far as colleges go , Florida State was one of the ones i was looking into. i think i would like to specialize in hurricanes so i figured, concidering it's location it would bring about more oppertunities learn about hurricanes. I also concidered University of Hawaii at Manoa due to it's location in the tropical zone. recently, however, i have been questioning if i really want to be a meteorogist. Best wishes !! ~Ramen~
