Career In Meteorology

What different degrees are required for meteorology

I already know that a bachelors degree is required for entry level and a PhD is required for research positions. What can I do with a masters? What different types of meteorology jobs are there and what degrees are required? I'm in Florida, USA.

  1. That would differ from country to country, and probably even company to company. In Canada, to work for the federal government, you can get any position from entry level to research and anything in between with pretty much any degree. If you have a Masters, you are simply subject to a slightly higher payscale than someone with a Bachelor's, for example.
  2. You could work at the Weather Channel as a reporter or a local weather station with a Bachelor's although i'd recommend a Master's to get in, but most of the Weather Channel meteorologists are just weather reporters and a Bachlor's is bare minimum. If you're looking to work for the National Weather Service, NOAA, the Severe Storms Laboratory, The National Hurricane Center you better have at least a Master's degree or they won't give you a second thought.
