Career In Meteorology

What career is right for me?

I'm in my last year of high school. I'm not sure what I want to be. I have a passion for weather, so I originally decided meteorology. But I thought about it, I was never very good with science. I did TERRIBLE in chemistry. So I decided maybe meteorology isn't the way to go. I also love Kids! I defiantly would like a career with at least 2 years of college. Depending on how well I do, maybe a 4 year. Does anyone know careers that fit those categories, and how many years of college it requires? [weather]- i love learning about storms a and tornados. it's not much of an outdoor passion. just a passion for the storms. [kids] i was thinking about child life specialist.

  1. Pretzelstix09, It's great that you're thinking NOW about what to do with your interests. Too many college bound kids don't consider any of this until it's too late. What you see as a challenge may be pointing to just what it is that you might do with your future. Your interest in weather really sounds more like a love of the outdoors than of weather, am I right? Combine that with your love of kids and it really leaves a whole bunch of possibilities for you. Depending on which state you live in, you can get a teaching certificate usually within a year or so of obtaining your Bachelor's Degree. If you set the course now to perhaps teach elementary science or if your love of the outdoors is still there, you could work as a Nature Guide/Teacher at one of the many beautiful private and public parks across America. These are only a couple of quick suggestions for you to consider. Have a conversation with someone that you know, love and trust and ask them what they see as your gifts, talents and abilities or geniuses even. Each of us has that ONE special thing that nobody else in the world can duplicate. Find yours if you haven't already. My advice to you is to take the four year track and invest in your future by doing work study in a few different fields so that you can narrow down your own tastes, desires and choices. Apply yourself to your studies and your work study and you'll come out the other side all the better for it. Look inside for your answers, let your instincts guide you to your life's calling. If you're not writing your thoughts and plans in a journal, start one. It will help you to clarify and focus on what it is that you really want and need to do. There is no greater reward in this world than to love the work that you're doing. Find what it is that you LOVE to do most and then create a career around that. Good luck with your choices and your life!
