Career In Meteorology

Question about major in college and becoming a naval officer through nrotc ?

If i decide to major in meteorology in college, does that mean i must serve as a meteorologist in the navy (METOC officer), or can i choose a career path like aviation in the navy?

  1. Your major has nothing to do with what career you choose in the Navy
  2. Your major has nothing to do with it. After your junior year you get evaluated and choose a wish list on what you want to do. The higher you are on the order of merit, the higher your chooce will be. I was a history major selected for military intelligence with a branch transfer to infantry. Army of course.
  3. You could still go Naval Aviator, it isn't like understanding wind/weather has nothing to do with air-o-dynamics, but why don't you go for studying what it is you most like and want to do/ and then actually doing that job when you are serving, it isn't like we dont have weather-people in a battle group and yes, they are normally on the Aircraft carriers, predicting weather over a lot larger area then your run of the mill weatherman on tv.
