Career In Meteorology

Is meteorology a demanding job? Is it a hard field to get into?

Our really great 5A high school with a college connected only has ONE meteorology class and its along with geology and oceanography and its as a senior for your science class if you want to take it instead of AP biology or something liek that... anyway What are some colleges that are great for meteorology that are close to Texas or in Texas? Is meteorology a hard field to get into? Is it demanding? I just love weather and want to take classes that will gear me toward my goal to be a meteorologist. im 15 and a girl btw... thanks!

  1. Hello Hi! The University of Oklahoma has a fantastic meteorology program from what I hear. That's a place you should consider. Getting a meteorology degree requires hard work, but it is certainly worth your wild. Getting government jobs, such as a forecaster position at the National Weather Service, is quite hard to do. There are other places that demand meteorologists. In reality, there are plenty of career options: forecasting, consulting, instruction, and more. If you're planning on studying meteorology, then you should definitely take plenty of math and science courses. Chemistry and physics is very important. Try to take at least algebra, trigonometry, and statistics in high school. Also, try to build your computer skills. Not a lot of women are interested in computer programming, but note that it is a helpful tool for forecasters. I suggest that you also build up your skills with Microsoft office programs, such as Word and Excel. There's so much more to say, but I try to cover some of the most important points. I wish you the best in your future studies.
