How Can I get into Meteorology/Weather spotter jobs? I am a model with time on my hands, but Im not so great at complex math skills, I have a high school diploma and some college but no degree. Are there any weather related positions outside of TV that I can get in on? Im a big weather obsessor and hobbyist.
Are there alot of jobs in the field of meteorology? I just absolutely love weather. I love researching about, love watching videos on youtube, I love experiencing it, I love learning about, basically I love everything about it and it interests me so much becuase its unpredictable and very interesting. I would love to study it in school and make a job out of it but I'm afraid there are not many jobs in the field of meterology besides being the weatherman on your local TV station. Is there more than that?
Science Jobs in These Subjects: Biology and Meteorology? So I was wondering a couple of things. First of all how long does it take to get a PhD in Biology: Plant or genetics/DNA? Meteorology? What profession will I get a better income w/? What kind of jobs could i get in Meteorology: NASA maybe? Biology? Is BYU, Provo good for meteorology or should i try to go to Univ. of Oklahoma Thanks~~~Chloe
Are there any jobs in the military involving astronomy or meteorology? i was just wondering, because i've always thought of going in the military, (considering how many of my relatives are in)and i was wondering if there are any astronomy related jobs in the military. i love astronomy, AND meteorology (i know there are some meteorology jobs in the air force) and if you know any, will you please list them? i don't think there are many, if any astronomy jobs, but im just curious. So if you know ANY military jobs that have to do with meteorology or astronomy, please list them. oh, and by meteorology jobs i don't mean like weather girl jobs...i mean like flying into the center of hurricanes to take pictures of the eye jobs. :)
What different degrees are required for meteorology I already know that a bachelors degree is required for entry level and a PhD is required for research positions. What can I do with a masters? What different types of meteorology jobs are there and what degrees are required? I'm in Florida, USA.
weather/meteorology jobs in the military? I am interested in joining the military to learn about weather forecasting/research and I was wondering which branch is the best for it? Also if anyone has done this job in the military what are some of the things you did and where did you get to go? Thanks!
What is some info or tips on meteorology? im 13 and im thinking about jobs in meteorology so i would like to know accurate info like whats types of meteorolgy jobs, how much they make a year (depending on the type), what are good colleges to obtain that job, what type of degree i need, how long i would have to go to college ,benefits. What are some jobs relating to Earth Science? I need atleast 10 jobs. It's for a project. But I'm not allowed to use these jobs: geology meteorology astronomy oceanography So, please least maybe 5 or even more jobs that relate to Earth Science. Maybe even 10?
What is a weather (meteorology) job like in the Air Force or any other military branch? am leaning towards crosstraining out of my Air Force job and into the Weather Apprentice job. The long tech school doesnt bother me at all...I like school. What is this job like? What do you like or dislike about this job? What should I know about the job? PLEASE NO WEBSITES...I want info from people...I have already checked all the web sites on weather.
What kind of jobs could I get if I major in Geology? I'm about to start college here soon & I am really considering Geology/ Oceanography/Meteorology... I'm trying to avoid jobs that work with math, as best I can lol!!! =/ I don't know how successful I will be at maintaining that outlook though. I do have a passion for learning more about rocks, earth sciences/ waters etc - Keysha very good point.
Hydrography or Meteorology; which area would offer a better career after military service? I'm joining the Navy as a WS(HM), I can select a preference of field, I would like to do Hydrography or Meteorology; I don't really mind what I do, but I was thinking of getting a career in that area after my military service. Which of the two would offer me a better career? I'm not sure about these kind of things in civilian jobs, so any help on which would be better would be very much appreciated. Thank you
Where can I find science jobs in Japan? I am a Canadian-American dual-citizen with a bachelor of science in meteorology from an American university. I wish to live and work in Japan, but not as an English teacher. Preferably, I'd like a weather forecasting job, but any science job would do, I guess. I can't find any science jobs in Japan open to foreigners. Please help.
What are the pros and cons of a career in meteorology? What kinds of jobs can I get? I am 30 and finishing up my degree, does that matter? Are all the jobs rotating shifts? Can the job be adventuress? How hard is it to get a job in the NWS? What is the best job to have? Can a degree from an American school be used else where in the world?
what is the process of becoming a meteorologist and i have some questions relating to meteorology? i know that you have to have a bachelor's degree, but i've also heard that a masters or even a doctorate. is it very hard to become a meteorologist and are jobs readily available? as for being a broadcast meteorologist, consulting, or research meteorologist, or whatever other types there are, is there a big difference in pay? i'm not exactly sure what i want to do, but this seems very interesting. when i was little i always wanted to be one, and i'm kind of re-exploring the possibility. if you have any other information you think i might find useful besides what i asked, that would be great. thanks all.
Does anyone have any meteorology advice for me? I want to study meteorolgy in college, and right now im taking my general education requirements at a local college, and i'll transfer out later. Does anyone have any advice for me? Where would the best place to take meteorology be? What kinds of classes would I take? What are my odds of getting a good job after college? Thanks!
Meteorology job in the marines? So i have just recently taken the asvap and it turns out i am qualified for meteorology/ oceanography in the marines. so i was wondering what could a person expect to get out of this job? and what would be my daily routine? how did you or the person you know like this job? were you able to do any college classes while in this position? if so how many credits? i would prefer to have answers from those who have been through this program or are still going through it
What's the highest college degree in meteorology? What type of jobs could I get with that degree? If they're not hiring meteorlogists, would that degree qualify me to be a Elementary or High school science teacher? What else could I do with that degree? How many years of college is that degree and what's the average price? Sources? Would I be able to be a math teacher?
Meteorology (degree/job question)? Hello! I am an undergraduate Meteorology student trying to determine which minors appeal most to employers (for Operational and Research jobs). My professor really stressed the importance of a GIS minor no matter what, and even said to look more into that field than Meteorology, which disappointed me. (Is the job market for Meteorologists that bad?) Also, he told me it is extremely difficult to get into the NWS, and that NSSL is all "volunteer" jobs. Is this true? I'm staying positive despite what my professor said...and the main question is which minors are best for the operational and research sides?
NASA Meteorology job contacts? I'm doing a Cover Letter for school and I chose a job in Meteorology for NASA. I'd like to know who specifically I would contact, meaning their names, address, etc...THANKS!!! =)
Is there a way to get a job related to meteorology with a Computer/Electrical Engineering degree? I've always been interested in meteorology but there are no degree programs in my state (Virginia) so I pursued my next hobby/interest which is computers. I'm about 2 to 3 years away from getting a Computer Engineering and possibly an Electrical Engineering degree also with 15 more credits but I'm not sure yet. I am wondering if there is any computer related jobs you can get related to meteorology or any such work? I searched google, NOAA, NWS and couldn't find anything. Anyone know? I can't get a degree in meteorology, maybe online in the future but don't see it happening in the next 8 years. Anyone know?
Does anyone know someone who went into meteorology in school and ended up doing something else? Why? I went into meteorology because I loved the weather, graduated and got a job and everything, and now am seriously considering something else, as it's not what I expected...and I don't like weather anymore now that I went into meteorology, especially because it seems like no one I work with does. Anyone know of anyone else in the same or similar situation, or maybe even a different field? Any advice?
Would a degree in meteorology be better for the Navy or the Air Force? Would I most likely be stationed on a ship in the Navy with this degree (as an officer)? Do they have any need for a land-based meteorologist? I would hate to spend the next twenty years of my life at sea. Would kind of job would I have in the Air Force? I would think that the air traffic controllers would be enlisted instead of officers.
What are some jobs that deal with weather? besides meteorologist (or having a meteorology degree). Like anything that deals with weather, even boating. Any military? and Civilian? Thanks for the ideas/knowledge
Highest paid jobs? that you dont have to have like 20 years experiance to get... normal jobs.. like meteorology - thats like $100thou isnt it.. any more..?
Preparing for meteorology classes? What is dynamics and synoptics like and what does it have to do with meteorology? Sources? What are some jobs that meteorologists do? What do they do behind a computer?
Jobs that use science in them? I just have some science homework in which I have to find a job that uses science except a chemical engineer, biochemists, geochemistry, zoologists, chemistry teacher, food chemists, agricultural scientist, toxicology, meteorology, baking, and a pharmacist. Can you please tell me a job that doesn't include the ones I've listed above?
Question about Meteorology -- the job? Alright I have a question for anyone who has any experience in the job field of meteorology...i am looking to pursue a career in it (possibly). I like the subject itself enough but how would you say the job is, as in a personal account of what the reality of it is. There has to be one person on yahoo who has experience in it. Honest answers that are NOT sarcastic would be appreciated. Thank you. Basically the question was that if you have had experience in this field, what is your personal account of it? I don't plan on going into the TV aspect of it, I would much rather study weather patterns and relay information. Thank you for the careerbuilders link, by the way. I'll look into that.
Why am I good at physics and hopeless at maths? Usually aptitude at physics and maths go together; you're either good at both or hopeless at both, Newton, Einstein and Hawking being cases in point. At school, Uni and various jobs I've consistently been quite good at physics and hopeless at maths; I'd be much more successful at jobs like electronics and meteorology, both of which I've been employed at, if my maths didn't hold me back. Is anybody else like this and is there an explanation?
Should I really go into meteorology? Since the age of 5 I have wanted to be a meteorologist, but now I'm a junior in high school and realize how difficult it may be to get a job as a meteorologist. Should I go into this or look for another major? I don't necessarily want to go into broadcast meteorology, but I don't want to do research so much. What should I do? What are my options?
Career in meteorology? I'm interested in majoring in meteorology. I am currently at a community college but will go to a 4 year college in the fall. What classes would be good to take? What jobs could I get? What's the salary like?
What is a More Interesting Occupation in the Science Field? When I'm a Sophomore i will most likely be starting my senior project which is shadowing someone with a job you are interested. After that we have to prepare a presentation and write several papers and so on. So my question is: What is a more interesting and "better job" Biology or Meteorology? please support your answer. Thanks
Jobs that help other people? (sounds pretty vague)? i am in high school and am looking at a possible career path that i could pursue in my life. I was really interested in meteorology which is a very well paid job, but as i thought about it with a job in meteorology there is no way that i can travel to many different countries and help people who need it... which is my main passion in a career. I am relatively smart and go to a top school in the nation for academics (and sports). does anyone know of a well paying job (preferably more than $60,000 a year) that i can travel and help people in need? also, what degrees and number of years in school would be required? thank you! PLEASE NOTHING IN BUSINESS...
Is meteorology a demanding job? Is it a hard field to get into? Our really great 5A high school with a college connected only has ONE meteorology class and its along with geology and oceanography and its as a senior for your science class if you want to take it instead of AP biology or something liek that... anyway What are some colleges that are great for meteorology that are close to Texas or in Texas? Is meteorology a hard field to get into? Is it demanding? I just love weather and want to take classes that will gear me toward my goal to be a meteorologist. im 15 and a girl btw... thanks!
Meteorology major....?? I'm considering changing my major to Meteorology (what I've always wanted to do) but am very hesitant because of the high level of math and physics involved...if I have a history of struggling in math (the lower levels like Trig and Pre-Calc), should I not even consider Meteorology? Also, if anyone knows, I've heard that women who want to have a family shouldnt go into Meteorology because of the shifts/hours of the job....any women in Meteorology have any comments on that?
Homework help? Earth Science jobs.? Okay, Google, Is not fucking help, to start off with. So don't be smart and say use google. I need 5 different jobs in the subjects of Meteorology, Oceanography, Geology. I already have like Meteorologist, Oceanographer, Geologist, And such. Please Help? It would be greatly appreciated.
Good Meteorology schools? I've been a huge fan of weather for years. I check the weather constantly and love learning about it. I already have an associates in business administration, but thinking of going back to school for meteorology. Problem is I'm not so good at math, and physics aren't my thing, so I have a couple questions: 1- What are the different jobs a meteorologist can have? 2- What are good colleges around St. Louis, MO? 3- Are there any online programs? I found one at Penn State but it's only for a certificate. Thanks!!
does the national weather service have geologists working for them? i am in college and working on a degree in geology, i wanted to major in meteorology but, the math is incredibly hard and they are not too many schools who offer it. i was wondering if geology is somewhat related to meteorology and could i get i job at the national weather service? thank you in advance!
What do meteorologists for the Navy do? I am thinking about going into the Navy ROTC program to study meteorology, I would have to serve 6 years upon graduation. What jobs do navy meteorologists do? Do I get to be on a ship? Thanks.
Strange science jobs or studies? My teacher is offering extra points to whoever can find the strangest science job or science study. By science study i mean like Geology, Meteorology, etc. Ideas?(They have to be real)
Meteorology = weather girl? Alright so I'm becoming a senior next year and before i go into college i want to think of a major. Well i'm pretty sure i want to major in meteorology but i keep getting asked, "Oh so you want to be a weather girl?" so my question is if you major in meteorology does that mean the only job you can get is to be a weather person?
Computer Engineering and Meteorology? I grew up interested in meteorology and I study it as a hobby however no universities in my state (virginia) offer any meteorology program when I was a Senior in HS and looking. So I got into my second favorite passion (computers) and I am now a junior studying Computer/Electrical Engineering I may double major as an electrical engineer but I'm not sure yet. I was wondering if there are any jobs that Computer Engineers do that help or are related to meteorology? I searched google really quick but couldn't really find anything.
How much do broadcast meteorologists make? I will be going to SUNY Oswego and Cornell for broadcast meteorology. 1). Is a Baccalaureate Degree all I will need to find a nice job in a small/mid-sized city in the Northeast? 2). How much can I expect to earn? Thanks!
meteorology in the army? Does the army offer anything related to meteorology beside the field artillery meteorological crewmember? And if so, what does this job entail?
Does anyone know of a good recruiting service here in Houston? I am looking for a new job and wanted to get some help from a recriutier. I have a BA in Geography, BS in Meteorology, Masters in Public Administration, 13 years military experience and 4 years consulting experience. If anyone knows of a good recruiter, please let me know.
What could I do with a Bachelors Degree in Atmospheric Science? I'm considering majoring in this, but I've been told it takes a few years to get a job as a meteorologist. I was wondering, what would I do with this degree besides meteorology. This is really important, so thanks. Well are you saying I should not major in this then? I live near the Mount Holly NWS
Interested in a career in meteorology? Hey everyone. I'm a sophomore in high school now, and have been becoming really interested in two things: the weather and local TV news. I've been thinking of maybe shooting for a career in broadcast meteorology. I love to give presentations, love watching (and kind of studying!) our local newscasts, love studying about the atmospheric conditions, and most equation-type and graphing-type math is fairly easy for me. However, I'm not so great at chemistry, but really only because my teacher isn't so great. Btw, I'm in Algebra II this year, and am taking Chemistry and Biology for my sciences. Anyways, I'm probably going full IB (International Bacculaureate, kind of like AP and Honors stuff) next year. I'm planning on taking the 2-year Physics IB course for my junior & senior years. What classes should I try to take while I'm in high school, do during summers and for extra-curriculars, and once I get to college, what kinds of stuff do I need to do? I'm interested in LSU, which is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I'd like to be able to stay in that market area for a job if I can, but I do understand that broadcast meteorology can really "take you places," and that's OK... Also, does anyone know the yearly salary, work hours, and that kind of stuff for the TV meteorologists in the Baton Rouge metro area? Thanks for the help!!!
Why can meteorologists be wrong so consistently and still keep their jobs? Now I know that meteorology is notoriously inexact, and the accuracy drops very quickly to next to nothing once you look more than a week or so into the future, but our local meteorologist has to be an idiot. I wish I could get paid in the high five figures to be wrong about the weather on a nightly basis. I live in the middle of South Carolina, a relatively warm and snow-less place, most of the time. We had gotten a light dusting earlier this year, and he predicted that, tonight, there would be five to ten inches of accumulation in the upper 25-30% of the state, three to five in the middle area, one to three in the lower middle, and a dusting down closer to Charleston and the coastline. This was at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Every three hours for the next 12 hours, the 'amount of snowfall' graph moved slowly but surely towards the northwest part of the state, till Columbia (basically smack in the middle) was left on the very trailing edge of "coating," which is code for 'not enough to have fun." It is now 2:52 in the morning, it is still raining, and the temperature isn't even bordering on freezing; it's like 36 degrees outside (nothing even REMOTELY close to the predicted sixteen.) So I ask again: Why can meteorologists be wrong so consistently and still keep their jobs?
Meteorology Career and the Navy.? I am about to go to MEPs and all that. I know that you pick a job once you take the ASVAB, and see what is avaliable for you. Lets just say I earn high enough that I can have just about any job I like. I am interested in the Science field. I have read the summary on the Navy website and alot of it deals with Nuclear work and some Meterology and Oceanography. My question is, if you pick this job do you have to work with Nuclear and go to nuclear school, or can you just work with Meteorology and Oceanography.
Can someone explain, using as many layman's terms as possible, what a tornado is and how it forms? I'm interested in Meteorology, but the Wikipedia article on the subject is hard to understand and doesn't do that great of a job explaining it to those who aren't familiar with weather-terms. I'm interested in Meteorology, but the Wikipedia article on the subject is hard to understand and doesn't do that great of a job explaining it to those who aren't familiar with weather-related terms.

What was the working environment when you work with earth science job like? I graduated from Chemical Engineering school and was interested in about tranferring to Earth and Science field. ( Climate change/ Weather forcast/Meteorology/Environmental management) I don't know much about working environment, career path and people whom you might work with. Can anyone give the ideas about this ? Do I need to work alone in the lab? Cause I give the important factor of my life balance as well. Thanks in advance ; )
Which career is in more demand, forensic sciences, meteorology or geology? I was just wondering, because i heard there isnt much demand for forensic sciences and that you have to be a cop before you go into forensics. (I wanted to go into lab work actually, no pathology for me...). So i just sort of threw that out, and i became interested in meteorology and geology. Basically, i was just wondering when you get out of post-secondary- which one are you guaranteed a job asap? Like, will they be asking you to work with them or will you have to job hunt because of the profession you chose to study? Any info on this would be much appreciated. Im currently in high school, so i was just wondering.
Do I need both an NWA and AMS seal to be a TV Weathercaster? Or is NWA enough? I'm an undergraduate student studying TV Journalism, and considering adding Broadcast Meteorology to my studies to give me a competitive edge as a reporter. The program would not qualify me for an AMS seal, due to a lack of Calculus classes. Should I spend time working for the NWA certification? Or do I really need the AMS seal to get any sort of job?
Advice On How To Become A Meteorologist? I'm 13 years old and I live in Miami and ever since hurricane Katrina hit South Florida. I have been really interested in meteorology and I want this to be my future job when I grow up. I want to work in the hurricane center in FIU and I just wanted to people to give me some advice on how to achieve this goal. Like on what classes I should take in the future and what I should study hard on. Thank you :)
Can anyone tell me about the Army MOS 13W Field Artillery Meteorological Crewmember? I eventually want to pursue a career in meteorology. However, for now, I want to enlist in the U.S. Army. Therefore, I thought that MOS would be rewarding and marketable. I'm sure not very many people have had that particular job, but if anyone knew or dealt with Soldiers with that MOS when they served in the Army and could tell me anything the recruiters may have failed to mention I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
