What is a good school for meteorology? I really want to go to Florida State University, I know they have a good program there. I currently reside in Washington State and the University of Washington also has a meteorology program. I am willing to live in Florida a year to establish residency in order to get the large discounted in-state rate. According to US News and World Report, UW ranks 42 and FSU ranks 110. After college, is it that important which college you attended? Which is better for meteorology? If it helps, I'm much more interested in severe/tropical forms of weather, esspecially hurricanes. I'm originally from New Orleans one reason I would rather choose FSU is because I need to get back south, I really do not like it up here. I have also heard a great deal more about FSU than UW. I'm just wondering how credible FSU is compared to UW or if it really makes that much of a difference.
Would a degree in meteorology be better for the Navy or the Air Force? Would I most likely be stationed on a ship in the Navy with this degree (as an officer)? Do they have any need for a land-based meteorologist? I would hate to spend the next twenty years of my life at sea. Would kind of job would I have in the Air Force? I would think that the air traffic controllers would be enlisted instead of officers.
what is the process of becoming a meteorologist and i have some questions relating to meteorology? i know that you have to have a bachelor's degree, but i've also heard that a masters or even a doctorate. is it very hard to become a meteorologist and are jobs readily available? as for being a broadcast meteorologist, consulting, or research meteorologist, or whatever other types there are, is there a big difference in pay? i'm not exactly sure what i want to do, but this seems very interesting. when i was little i always wanted to be one, and i'm kind of re-exploring the possibility. if you have any other information you think i might find useful besides what i asked, that would be great. thanks all.
What are the pros and cons of a career in meteorology? What kinds of jobs can I get? I am 30 and finishing up my degree, does that matter? Are all the jobs rotating shifts?
