Meteorology (degree/job question)? Hello! I am an undergraduate Meteorology student trying to determine which minors appeal most to employers (for Operational and Research jobs). My professor really stressed the importance of a GIS minor no matter what, and even said to look more into that field than Meteorology, which disappointed me. (Is the job market for Meteorologists that bad?) Also, he told me it is extremely difficult to get into the NWS, and that NSSL is all "volunteer" jobs. Is this true? I'm staying positive despite what my professor said...and the main question is which minors are best for the operational and research sides?

Would a degree in geography be okay for applying for meteorology grad school? I'm getting stressed out. I want to eventually work with either The Weather Channel, NWS, or NOAA. Therefore, I'd like to go to meteorology grad school. However, I'm majoring in geography with emphasis on earth environmental systems. To get an undergraduate degree in meteorology, I'd have to transfer to my university's rival. I took a tour of their campus before I even decided to come to my school, and I didn't really enjoy it or feel at home. I feel at home at my current university. My question to you is if, with this geography degree, there is any chance of me getting into a good meteorology grad school like at FSU or PSU?
Is there a way to get a job related to meteorology with a Computer/Electrical Engineering degree? I am wondering if there is any computer related jobs you can get related to meteorology or any such work? I searched google, NOAA, NWS and couldn't find anything. Anyone know? I can't get a degree in meteorology, maybe online in the future but don't see it happening in the next 8 years. Anyone know?

A degree in meteorology.......but I only like certain aspects. Help!? I'm currently a computer science major, but don't like it anymore. I've had general physics 1 and 2 and calculus 1 and 2. I love weather, but only severe weather. I would love to be able to work with it as a career. I also wouldn't mind working for a tv station being the one who gives the on air meteorologists all the information they need. I wouldn't mind to interpret radar data for a living. Does anyone know of any degree, or certificate, programs that offer things like this? I know things like this take time, but I also would like the one that can get me out the quickest. I've been in school for almost 4 years now and have got to get out soon. Thanks.
Why is it so frickin difficult to get a degree in Meteorology? Why would you get a BS in Meteorology, rather make quadruple the pay as a surgeon or something, look at all these rigorous courses you need: General Chemistry I: Essential Concepts of Chemistry w/Lab Use of Computers in Meteorology and Oceanography Calculus I Calculus II Calculus III Elementary Differential Equations and Linear Algebra Probability and Statistics with Computing General Physics with Calculus I/Laboratory General Physics with Calculus II/ Laboratory Physical Processes in the Atmosphere and Ocean I Physical Processes in the Atmosphere and Ocean I Meteorological and Oceanographic Observing Techniques and Systems Planetary Climate Change Computer Programming with Applications in Meteorology and Oceanography Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere and Ocean Weather Chart Analysis and Discussion Atmospheric Thermodynamics and Cloud Physics Atmospheric Dynamics I Weather Analysis and Forecasting I Atmospheric Dynamics II Professional Writing in Metr. Elective course You have to be smarter than a computer i guess-have to be one hell of a math and physics tool. I wanted to be a meteorologist ever since high school but i've never been great at math and never took physics, i guess that's why there are a lot of broadcasters who just do the weather segment. Plus once you graduate and you want to get into media meteorology-good luck, you have to go to some station in nowheresville for years, the field just doesn't seem to be rewarding even if you are a weather fanatic and good in math etc.
Meteorology- What do I need to start with in community college, to get into a program at a university? My community college doesn't offer a degree in Atmospheric science, or meteorology. Im 19 and i just graduated high school myself and i plan on going to Embry Riddle or Florida Institute for college this fall. Does anyone know about this??
Meteorology-Masters degree vs. P.h.D.? In addition to the credits earned from the Bachelors degree, what additional credits would be needed to earn a Masters degree in meteorology? Additional requirements to earn a P.h.D. from a Masters degree? Would a thesis or some sort of dissertation be required to earn a Masters degree? What would be required in the thesis or dissertation for the Masters degree? What must be included for the P.h.D.? Sources?
Ethics in meteorology, and giving the NWS credit where credit is due? If someone does not hold a degree in meteorology and works for a television or radio station, is it ok for them to use the forecast from the National Weather Service without giving the NWS credit? The NWS does have a disclaimer on their website that all their products, including forecasts, are free for public use for ANY purpose. If a degreed meteorologist uses the NWS forecast and DOES give credit, is that ok? Critical thinking question from my Meteorology class. Opinions welcome.

What are the pros and cons of a career in meteorology? What kinds of jobs can I get? I am 30 and finishing up my degree, does that matter? Are all the jobs rotating shifts? Can the job be adventuress? How hard is it to get a job in the NWS? What is the best job to have? Can a degree from an American school be used else where in the world?
What is the difference between Atomopheric Physics and Meteorology? Specifically in relation to a graduate degree. Thanks! Haha, typed way to fast....Atmospheric Physics is what I meant to say.
what is the process of becoming a meteorologist and i have some questions relating to meteorology? i know that you have to have a bachelor's degree, but i've also heard that a masters or even a doctorate. is it very hard to become a meteorologist and are jobs readily available? as for being a broadcast meteorologist, consulting, or research meteorologist, or whatever other types there are, is there a big difference in pay? i'm not exactly sure what i want to do, but this seems very interesting. when i was little i always wanted to be one, and i'm kind of re-exploring the possibility. if you have any other information you think i might find useful besides what i asked, that would be great. thanks all.
Are there any psycho-stimulant drugs that would help me study mathematics? I'm not great at math, and I want to get a Meteorology degree which requires a decent amount of calculus and other math classes depending on the program. I'd like to know if there are any psycho-stimulants I could get a prescription for that would help me get through these classes with a passing (or even good) grade.
I plan to go to BYU for two years, then transfer to the Univ. of Utah for Meteorology, but do should I major? I'm LDS and I'm going to BYU for those purposes, also due to the fact that it's cheaper than going to the University of Utah for 4 years paying out of state tuition. I plan on majoring in meteorology at Utah, but I'm not sure what I could major in at my first two years at BYU. Think of it like I'm going to community college, would I just take my required classes for a Meteorology degree at BYU? I'm confused. Mary, please re-read my question. I'm not going to a community college, it was merely a reference.

Anyone know any online accredited colleges for Meteorology? I am looking for a completely online college that is accredited that offers degrees in atmospheric science. Meteorology, Geology, etc. I am currently taking online courses at a local college. I have absolutely no time to go to the college, so I need strictly onlne courses and preferably no proctor as I have found that they will not let my friends or family proctor and like I said, I have no time to go somewhere to take exams. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thank you!!!!!
What percentage of TV weathermen are not actually meteorologists? I have heard many TV stations hire weather forecasters because they are good at presenting infomation. Some even have no background in meteorology or degree. So how many of these TV weathermen exist? Are television meteorologists allowed to explain phenonmia with proper scienctfic language or do the station directors tell them how to explain things? Which then would cause them to commit "bad science". I am interested in this because I am current attend Penn State and majoring in meteorology.
Best meteorology school? I've read that you don't necessarily need an undergrad degree in meteorology to gain a masters in the field. Does anyone know the best school to get a masters in meteorology if your undergrad is in a different subject?
Why is Meteorology so inaccurate so often? On Tuesday, the forecast for today in my area was supposed to be 83. It is currently already 87 degrees outside at 9am, and the forecast has changed to 108. I do live in Los Angeles and we are notorious for having crazy weather, but it just seems like they are very often wrong when predicting weather. Why can we go to Mars, clone mammals and create cutting edge communications technology, but we haven't mastered the art of deciding whether or not to wear a coat the next day?

Is A Marketing Degree Worthless? I was orginally planning to get a degree in Meteorology but I needed alot of Calculus classes and that turned me off. With marketing it looks like I only need one calculus or statistics class and im good. So I have heard good things and bad things about marketing. I wanted to know if a degree in marketing is good or not? I already do internet marketing but im sure this is different. It looks like a degree thats fairly easy, and I have heard people say you can make alot of money. I just want to know if I could get a job or not with a marketing degree. If anyone has a degree and could provide some help I would be thankful. I thinking of going to California State University. Can anyone help me here? Thanks
